IML 2011, good to go or not?

I think about to go to the IML 2011 for my first time, but I'm not sure if its still interesting.
Whats the best place to stay and where is the best action? I don't need to see the show, but want to play a lot

Any help and suggestions?

You want to stay in the host hotel - that's where all the action is. I know bottoms who do a lot of "sex tourism" say it's the weekend each year when they get the most loads. So for a bottom it's definitely worth the trip. HOWEVER, a lot of the bareback community were sorta boycotting it last year given IML's refusal to allow bareback porn producers and sellers into the Leather Mart.

It's the International Mr. Leather Contest which is held in Chicago every year over Memorial Day weekend. There are thousands of leathermen who go each year - many (most?) go for the sex more than the competition.

MAL is smaller, but they allow bareback studios to participate in the vendor area and the guys who go are definitely into having a sex filled weekend. For bottoms there's less competition, but still some competition. This year it's at a different hotel - not sure how that will change the chemistry.

Not only are the buildings heated, but it *IS* a leather event... leather is warm. It wouldn't make sense to hold a leather event in DC in, say, August.

As Rawtop posted, some guys go just for the sex (which is fine, everyone has his own motivations). But I'd add a few other observations:

1. IML being international, brings in a much more geographically diverse crowd. For many it's a "stand and model" beauty pageant both at the contest and at many events, and there can be (among some participants) a lot of body snobbery. It's not universal but be forewarned, if you can't deal with rejection it's not necessarily the best place to be.

2. MAL is smaller, more locally focused (at least, primarily east coast up to about the near midwest), and is much more of a traditional leather event. Unlike IML, MAL started as a social event put on by a leather club, and only later added the contest as a feeder for IML. So a far higher percentage of attendees are into leather and BDSM, although conversely IML, because of its appeal worldwide, attracts some of the most hard-core players. At MAL in particular, If you aren't in serious leather (i.e. considerably more than an armband on your right bicep), you may well be ignored at most of the social events.

In other words, these are not sex parties although sex parties may well be individually held events at both venues. Don't go assuming you pay your admission fee and automatically get to hop in some sling in a big dungeon room somewhere.

Its also my first time going this year. I know where to stay, but i was wondering what is the best way to find the parties and the tops? Should i just show up and hope someone takes me in? post online? I want to get as many loads as I can while im there.

There will be private raw sex parties at IML, boycott the formal events, but stay at the host hotel and start looking at other sex/hook up0 sites...BBRT, Adam4Adam, etc for sex party ads, You'll have a great time, there will be all types of guys.... be direct, cruise the hallways at night, you'll find room doors open, etc... But I agree the official BB studio stance sucks... so we're just not supporting it officially.. buying any tickets or going to the Mart, etc, just going and thinking of it as a easy way to have fuckin orgies every night
